At a young age A.J. was deeply influenced by his mother’s passion for horses and her love of the racetrack. When he was only eight-years-old he began getting legged up to ride his favorite pony. It was his mother’s, not only love of the horse but her love of horse racing that grabbed A.J.’s interest. His mother, Quetta, worked at both Detroit Raceway and Oaklawn Park as a young girl. A.J. grew up loving to listen to her stories involving the racetrack and backstretch life.
As A.J. grew older, his sights were set on more mainstream activities such as school sports and extra curricular activities. In the Fall of 2001 on a visit to see his sister, A.J. fell in love with Lexington and the surrounding horse country. His interest in horses rushed back and it was at that moment he decided that he was going to attend the University of Kentucky. True to his word, A.J. became a University of Kentucky graduate in 2006 with a degree in Business management.
A.J. has lived in Lexington ever since and horse racing once again raced to the forefront when buying his first horse as a business venture. He bought an off the track Thoroughbred (OTTB) that was retrained and sold for a small profit. The rest, as they say, is history. A.J.’s first Thoroughbred he ever bought to race won first time out for him and his partners and he will admit, there is not a better feeling in the world!
A.J. soon thereafter bought into his first pinhooking group and it is now his love and passion to buy and resell Thoroughbreds for a profit. He began his foray into pinhooking on a personal level in 2011 with family and friends. A.J. recently joined forces with Sean and Bob Feld to form The Club, a full-service, pinhooking and racing venture. “I cannot explain how excited I am to be working with Sean and Bob in a venture that I find very exciting due to my passion for the sport of Thoroughbred racing,” said A.J. “I think we are going to do some very big things with The Club.”
